Definition

Sesame seeds are the seed of the Sesasum indicum plant. They are an oil-rich seed that, when ground, produce tahini and are used to produce sesame oil.

Health considerations

Sesame seeds are an excellent source of protein, lignans, phosphorus, zinc, iron, and magnesium. They also provide calcium. See: Sesame.
