Rice bran oil is extracted from rice bran. It is used as a supplement and as a cooking oil due to its high smoke point.
Rice bran oil has been shown to be responsible for rice bran’s cholesterol-lowering effects. Rice bran oil is a source of the antioxidant oryzanol, which has been associated with, in addition to cholesterol reduction, lowering of TSH, reduction of menopausal symptoms, and lowered blood triglyceride levels.
Oryzanol content of rice bran oil remains roughly constant with heating in a pan, but decreases with microwave heating.
