Definition

Rolled oats are the result of husking, steaming, rolling, and toasting oat groats. Rolled oats typically no longer contain the oat bran. Rolled oats are commonly referred to as old-fashioned oatmeal; cutting rolled oats into smaller pieces produces quick and instant oats.

Health considerations

Rolled oats are a source of vitamins E and B1, iron, phosphorus, protein, and fiber, particularly beta glucan soluble fiber. See: OatsSoluble fiber.
