Definition

Matcha is finely milled or powdered green tea.

Health considerations

Matcha’s antioxidant content is significantly higher than standard green tea. In particular, the catecin epigallocatechin gallate has been found in concentrations over 100 fold those in steeped green tea. See: Green tea.

Keep in mind

High quality matcha is a vibrant light green; dull green-brown powders have undergone oxidation and dark green powders are of a lower grade. See: Green tea.

May be found in

Matcha, matcha beverages, green tea frozen desserts, green tea mochi, green tea confectionery
