Definition

Macadamia nuts are the round, cream colored edible seeds of four species of Macadamia trees.

Health considerations

Macadamia nuts have the lowest protein and highest fat content of the commonly consumed edible nuts. They are 8% protein, 14% carbohydrate, 9% protein, and 76% fat. Macadamia nuts are rich in monounsaturated fat and a source of vitamins B1 and B6, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and zinc. Macadamia nut consumption has been associated with cardioprotective effects, including lowering of cholesterol and reduced inflammation. See: Macadamia nut oil.
