Definition

Guaiac resin is a food additive derived from the Guaiacum genus of plants. It is approved for use as an antioxidant.

Health considerations

Guaiac resin has no known or reported irritant or toxicological effects, particularly at levels expected through normal diet. Consumption of significant quantities of isolated guaiac resin may cause gastrointestinal effects.

Keep in mind

Very little to no guaiac resin is absorbed following consumption. Residual resin is destroyed in the colon.
