Definition

Cantaloupe is the orange-fleshed fruit of Cucumis melo plants. This includes both the European cantaloupe and North American cantaloupe (a muskmelon), whose rinds have different appearances.

Health considerations

Cantaloupe is a source of carotenoids, vitamin C, manganese, potassium, and small amounts of B vitamins and other minerals.

Keep in mind

Cantaloupe rinds should be washed prior to slicing into the fruit due to bacterial contamination risk.
