Bitter almonds are the dried kernel of apricot pits. They may be sold hulled, which leaves them a pale white.

Health considerations

Bitter almonds contain compounds which can release cyanide when ingested. This can be lethal in sufficient doses.

Keep in mind

Health Canada advises consuming no more than three single bitter almonds a day, and recommends that children not consume them at all.
