Definition

Scallions typically refer to any member of the Allium species with long green leaves and a root bulb that is small, either due to early harvest or cultivar characteristics. Scallions have a mild onion taste.

Health considerations

Scallions are a source of Vitamins A, C, K, and some B vitamins (particularly folate), as well as small amounts of manganese, iron, calcium and potassium. Scallion extracts have antioxidant and antibacterial effects.
