Red currants are small, tart red berries produced by the Ribes rubrum plant. 

Health considerations

Red currants are a good source of potassium and manganese, and a very good source of fiber, vitamin C and vitamin K. Red currants are high in antioxidants, mostly due to their high anthocyanin content.
