Definition

Kiwi fruit are the berries of Actinidia plants. There are a number of varieties, with the most common types being the fuzzy and golden kiwi fruit.

Health considerations

Kiwi fruit are a significant source of vitamin C. Raw fruit contains the enzyme actinidain, which is capable of digesting meat and dairy proteins and is an allergen. Kiwi contains chemicals known as raphide calcium oxalate crystals which can cause symptoms such as a sore, itching mouth, and wheezing.
