Definition

Clethodim is an herbicide used in a variety of crops, including flax, sunflowers, oilseed rape, sugar beet, soybeans, and potatoes. It is a cyclohexanedione.

Health considerations

Clethodim is highly absorbed in the gastrointestinal system. Safety testing in animals uses doses greater by magnitudes than what can be expected in residue on foods, but has shown moderate liver toxicity, skin irritation, and central nervous system effects.

Keep in mind

Clethodim may be highly persistent in water. It is short-lived in soil, and plant leaves degrade it fairly rapidly.
