Definition

Bran is the outer layer of whole grains that is removed during milling and production of refined grains and flour. It may be sold as an isolated product, such as rice bran, oat bran, and wheat bran, for use as a supplement, additive to baked goods, or cereal.

Health considerations

Bran is a significant source of fiber, protein, essential fatty acids, and vitamins and minerals including B vitamins and iron.

Borscht, bread, muffins, quickbreads, soups, breakfast cereal, hot cereal
