Definition

Sorbitan monolaurate is an ester of sorbitan and lauric acid. Its primary uses in foods is as an emulsifier and to modify crystallization structure in fats.

Health considerations

At the levels expected with normal consumption, no negative effects have been attributed to sorbitan monolaurate.

May be found in

Bakery products, toppings and coatings, marmalade, fat emulsions, milk and cream analogues,beverage whiteners, liquid tea concentrates and liquid fruit and herbal infusion concentrates, edible ices, emulsified sauces, dietary food supplements, chewing gum, dietetic foods intended for special medical purposes.
