Rolled oats are the result of husking, steaming, rolling, and toasting oat groats. Rolled oats typically no longer contain the oat bran. Rolled oats are commonly referred to as old-fashioned oatmeal; cutting rolled oats into smaller pieces produces quick and instant oats.
Rolled oats are a source of vitamins E and B1, iron, phosphorus, protein, and fiber, particularly beta glucan soluble fiber. See: Oats, Soluble fiber.
