E numbers

Definition

E numbers are the code system used by the European Union and Switzerland for approved food additives. The European Food Safety Authority assesses the safety of and approves all additives that appear on this list.

Keep in mind

Due to global trade, multiple countries outside of the EU use E numbers on their packaging.
