Definition

Chives are the fine, green herb produced from the tubular leaves of Allium schoenoprasum onions. Both the mild green scapes and small, purple flower buds are used in a variety of dishes.

Health considerations

Chives are a source of vitamins A, C, and K as well as folate, manganese, and magnesium. Chives have antimicrobial and antioxidant effects.
