Celery seeds are the small seeds found in the flowers of celery plants. They are used as a seasoning, particularly in pickling.
Celery seeds are prevalent in alternative medicine, being suggested for use as a diuretic, to relieve hypertension, to reduce inflammation and muscle spasms, and to improve digestion. Celery seed may interact with some medications; before supplementing with celery seed, consult a physician.
Celery seed is not regulated as a medicinal ingredient by health agencies, and there is limited concrete evidence of these benefits. Celery is an allergen capable of causing severe reactions which may lead to anaphylactic shock.
