Carnosol is a compound found primarily in the herb rosemary.
Carnosol has recently been found to have many beneficial effects on a whole host of illnesses. In particular, carnosol has been studied as a treatment for prostate, breast, skin, leukemia, and colon cancer with promising results. Carnosol has also been shown to inhibit the growth of fat cells, as well as increase glucose uptake into skeletal muscle cells. This compound also acts as an anti-inflammatory and antiviral agent.
Rosemary is generally not consumed in high enough quantities to contribute significant levels of carnosol to the diet.
